Wright Manufacturing has been recognized as Member Company of the Year by the Maryland World Class Consortia (MWCC). The honor was bestowed on the Frederick, MD commercial lawnmower manufacturer for its excellent lean manufacturing experience. The annual award is presented to the company that has embraced lean manufacturing and exemplified excellence in Lean implementation and transformation over the last year. Wright, which was one of the state's pioneers in lean manufacturing, was cited for sharing its knowledge of the process with other companies.
Wright met all ten criteria for the award, but the previous President, Shawn Wolf, said the company was singled out for the way in which it met two criteria. One required companies to act as a role model for other MWCC members or non-member companies by motivating and inspiring others to embrace lean, and to support MWCC goals and values through mentoring others, sharing lessons learned and best practices, providing tours, hosting workshops, providing volunteers or other methods.
Wolf thanked the company employees, saying, "Thanks to many of you who have participated in preparing for and delivering tours! Our openness to share our story and to help others begin their lean journey is a high value to the Consortia. Thanks to each of you for being a part of our journey and your attention to lean principles as we attempt to apply them!"
Wright began manufacturing mowers in 1997. The company invented the popular stand-on mower, which lawn care operators are embracing for its compact footprint, maneuverability in tight spots, and safety features when mowing on hills and uneven ground. The company now manufactures a complete line of commercial walk behind, zero turn and a sit/stand mower, in addition to the Stander®. Wright also manufactures the original Velke Sulky™ for its walk behinds and steel grass catchers Grass Gobbler™.
